Cash and carry giant Booker has moved to snap up struggling rival Makro - which has a facility in south Belfast - in a deal expected to add over a million customers to its books. Booker, which has 172 branches and mainly supplies caterers and local shops, said buying German-owned Makro UK would give it a larger slice of the market for small and medium- sized businesses. Makro UK, valued at £139.7m under the deal, had sales of £800m in 2011.
