India's inflation rate fell to 5. 05 percent in January year-on-year, the lowest in seven months, said official date of wholesale price based inflation Friday. The drop was largely attributed to slower increase in food and vegetables prices, as food inflation eased to 8.8 percent in January from a high of 13.68 percent in the previous month, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Vegetable prices surged by 57.33 percent year-on-year in December, but increased by 16.6 percent in January.
