New Suez Canal

Head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish said on Wednesday that the Suez Canal team is following up preparations for inaugurating the New Suez Canal next month.

In an interview with MENA, Mamish asserted that the New Suez Canal project gives an example of other national projects, hailing the performance of all workers in the project.

The inauguration ceremony will be a world-class event, Mamish added.

He stressed that about 70% of workers in the new canal are from Sinai residents. He added that the country would provide more job opportunities for Sinai young people in the project.

Almost 75% of the worldwide dredgers participated in the digging works in the project.

He pointed to the importance of ports in reviving the national economy, saying that 95% of the Egyptian exports and imports pass through ports.

He called for setting up logistical and industrial zones in the Suez Canal area to increase the volume of international trade.

He urged establishing a strong infrastructure and hiring highly-qualified workers in all sectors.

He said that 54% of the world containers pass through the Suez Canal, adding that the waterway is capable of accommodating 100% of the containers.
