Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Thursday called in his top generals and defence chiefs for an emergency meeting to plan a response to Russia's escalating "aggression", his office said.
The Western-backed leader and his security team will discuss "ways to regroup forces and stop (the Russian) aggression," Poroshenko's office said in a statement issued after Kiev's decision to give up its months-long defence of Donetsk airport in the east.
His spokesman said it was Poroshenko's second such meeting of the day.
