US President Barack Obama on Tuesday nominated America's first ambassador to Somalia since 1991, when ties soured and warlords took over the African nation.
Katherine Dhanani, a long-time diplomat with deep experience of African affairs, will have to be confirmed by the Senate, but the State Department welcomed the move as "historic" and said it "signals the deepening relationship" between the two countries after they launched a new era of diplomatic relations in 2013.
