‘Cohasset Ridge’

Author David Lawrence crafts a historic mountain tale of trapping, scouting, life in a Native American village and how the first white settlers came to California in his new young adult fiction, “Cohasset Ridge” (published by Lulu).
Inspired by memories of living in the mountain community of Cohasset, California, during his preteen years, Lawrence’s novel gives a fictional portrayal of the life he lived on the ridge and relates the adventures of four other boys who preceded him.
Spanning from the early 1800s to the late 1940s, the boys’ stories are interspersed with real historical events. Woven throughout the fabric of the novel are messages of right versus wrong and wisdom from the boys’ mentors among the community and family values.
An excerpt from “Cohasset Ridge”:
“David’s fondest memories lay with the few short years he lived on Cohasset Ridge. Those few years had the greatest influence on his learning to be a decent neighbor, accepting others, who respect the law and support a moral society, no matter what their stance in life may be, and providing him a sense of self-reliance.”
