Three special mentions were announced by the jury of 56th Venice Biennale's International Art Exhibition titled All the World’s Futures
German artist Harun Farocki received a special mention as a seminal figure in post-war cinema. On the Biennale's website the jury says that the award will make “his entire body of highly influential work accessible to a larger public.

The Abounaddara collective from Syria received a special mention "for documenting the current political strife and human struggle for survival in Syria, without taking sides."

Founded in 2010 in Syria, the collective is exhibitsing at the Giardino delle Vergini, Arsenale.

Algerian artist Massinissa Selmani was given a special mention "for working in a modest medium which has the capacity to act beyond its scale,” said the jury.

The jury of the 56th International Art Exhibition is comprised of Naomi Beckwith (USA), Sabine Breitwieser (Austria), Mario Codognato (Italy), Ranjit Hoskote (India), and Yongwoo Lee (South Korea).

The Biennale opened on 9 May and continues until 22 November.
