For the first time in 35 years, organizers suspended Madrid's San Isidro festival after three matadors were gored by bulls. Matador David Mora was seriously injured in the opening program when a 1,172 lb. bull knocked him over, speared him in the leg with its horn, and then launched him into the air. Bullring officials noted that he sustained injuries to his thigh and armpit. The second matador to perform at the festival, Antonio Nazarre, was dragged by a bull through the ring and injured his knee. Jimenez Fortes, the third matador, was gored in the right leg and pelvis. The bloody bullfight left the crowd shocked and horrified. Nazarre and Fortes were expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday, while Mora, who suffered the worst of the injuries, was upgraded to serious condition from earlier being listed in life-threatening condition.
