Don't let snobbery stop you from following a book or movie recommendation. If a friend urges you to read a novel or watch a film that sounds silly or distasteful, follow their lead. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Being more open to artistic influences will cause your own creative juices to flow more freely. It will also strengthen some friendships. Stop writing off certain people who enjoy writers, musicians and filmmakers you distain. That's a silly thing to hold against people who usually uplift and delight you.
