Sudanese Foreign Ministry

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry denied on Sunday statements by deputy foreign minister Abdullah Azraq about the release of Mariam Ibrahim who is being tried for abandoning Islam.
The foreign ministry spokesman affirmed that the final decision still rests with the appeal court.
Yesterday, Azraq said that Mariam Ibrahim would be "freed within days in line with legal procedure that will be taken by the judiciary and the ministry of justice".
Ibrahim's father was Muslim but she was raised by her Christian mother. She was convicted of apostasy for marrying a Christian and sentenced to hang, under the Islamic law that has been in place since 1983.
