Nineveh Governorate Council revealed the intention of American troops and other foreign forces to establish a military base in Mousl under the pretext of training the Iraqi military forces and removing the mines.

According to the council’s deputy chairperson Nour Al Din Kobolan, vanguards of these troops arrived in Mousl, as Chinook aircrafts landed in Mousl’s Degla city a week ago. He added that the aircrafts were carrying a large number of Americans with their cars and equipment.

He added, in a statement to “Arabs Today”, that the American base launched attacks against ISIS stronghold in Mousl’s right bank, expecting that the force will remain in the city for a long period of time regardless of the military operations against ISIS.

He signaled that military sources told him that the American troops came to Iraq to provide training to the Iraqi forces and to qualify them for removing the land mines planted by the extremist groups. He stressed that the explosives made by ISIS are cheap while they are effective.

On the other hand, the Iraqi official said that the military operation to liberate Mousl’s right bank will start in the near future. He added, “The Iraqi security forces work currently to impose its control on the city’s left bank and to prevent any potential attack against the liberated areas.”

He stressed that it is impossible for the members of the extremist group to escape from the city, ruling out that ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi’s existence in Mousl or Nineveh.
