Saudi Arabia first Arab team to qualify for 2018 World Cup

Saudi Arabia have become the first Arab team to qualify for the World Cup next year in Russia.
The Saudis advanced to their fifth FIFA World Cup finals after Fahad Al Mowallad scored the winner in the 62nd minute of their final qualifying match against Japan in Jeddah.
HRH Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz was among the more than 62,000 people at the stadium.
Saudi Arabia needed to win by any score to qualify ahead of Australia who came third in their group and will have to play against Syria, the third in the other group, for a chance to qualify. The winner over two legs will have to face the fourth-placed team from central and North America for the last spot in the World Cup in June.
Saudi Arabia played in the World Cup finals in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006.
