Morocco’s national football team

Morocco’s national football team will face Tunisia and Burkina Faso in friendly matches, according to the Royal Moroccan Federation of Soccer (FRMF).

Ahead of Morocco’s match against Mali on August 28 in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, the national football team will face Burkina on March 24. Four days later, on March 28, Morocco will face Tunisia. Both matches will take place in Marrakech.

Following Morocco’s elimination in the quarterfinals against Egypt in the 2017 African Cup of Nations (CAN2017) held in Gabon, Morocco ranked 48 in the FIFA global football rankings.

During the two friendly matches, Morocco’s coach, Hervé Renard, is set to reintegrate AFC Ajax star, Hakim Ziyech, into the list of Morocco’s national football team players after he was absent in the 2017.

Renard’s decision to rule out Ziyech from participating in CAN 2017 sparked outrage among Morocco’s national team fans. Fans were upset with the decision, especially after Ziyech had been awarded as Holland’s best player for 2016.

In mid-January, former Netherlands striker and manager Marco van Basten had reproached Ziyech for deciding to play for Morocco and not waiting for his chance to be selected by the Netherlands national team.
