The United States, with Allison Schmitt swimming the anchor leg, won the Olympic gold medal Wednesday in the women\'s 800-meter freestyle relay. The rest of the American team was made up of Missy Franklin, world 100-meter butterfly record holder Dana Volmer and Shannon Vreeland. Australia won the silver medal and the bronze went to France.
