At least 17 people were killed and 28 others injured in a suicide attack near a Shiite Husseiniya area in Harthiya in western Baghdad, police said as quoted by Al Sumaria News channel.
Fatalities are expected to rise in light of the magnitude of the explosion, police also said.
Security forces have encircled the scene and the injured were rushed to hospitals for treatment.
