A security source at the Interior Ministry denied media reports that an explosive device went off outside Matariya police station in eastern Cairo on Thursday.
"A sound device exploded, damaging the glass of a tram which was passing in the area," the source told MENA.
The source stressed the incident caused no casualties or material damage to the police station.
