The Saudi police on Saturday arrested 33 people with reported links to Al-Ahsa killings, foiling a plot of another attack by the same group, according to Al Arabiya news channel.
The suspects had terrorism-related criminal records inside and outside the kingdom prior to the incident, sources told the news website, adding that they were planning to carry out an attack targeting security, government sites and public figures.
Earlier this week, a shooting occurred in Al-Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province, one of the main centers of the Shiite Muslims minority in Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia, where the Shiite Muslims were in ceremony to mark their Ashoura, the holy day commemorating the death of Imam Hussein, a grandson of Prophet Mohammad who is revered by the Shiites.
The shooting, which resulted in the killing of five and wounding nine others, was aimed to create chaos in different areas of Saudi Arabia, police said.
