Algiers-Thenia train accident

Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal stressed the need to rapidly set up a committee of inquiry to determine the causes of the train accident occurred Wednesday morning in Hussein-Dey Station (Algiers) leaving a 55-year old woman dead and 65 others injured, according to the toll provided by the civil defense department of Algiers.
After inquiring about the condition of the injured, Sellal insisted on the need to rapidly determine the causes of the accident.
General Manager of SNTF, Yassine Djaballah, reassured the travelers concerning the resumption of railway traffic in the afternoon.
The train linking Algiers and Thenia (eastern suburb of Algiers) veered off track at 8:10 a.m. some 150 meters of Hussein-Dey Station. The injured have been rescued and evacuated to Mustapha-Pacha, Parnet and Kouba hospitals, Civil Defense communication officer lieutenant Sofiane Bakhti said.
