Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab held a meeting on Tuesday with members of the National Population Council.
The meeting comes to confirm the political leadership's and government's interest in the population and development issues.
It was attended by ministers of planning, local development, Awqaf and education and heads of a number of bodies and experts.
The prime minister asserted that the population increase is a major challenge facing Egypt and there should be a national strategy to face the crisis.
"There is a political will to draw up the strategy as soon as possible especially that the required funds are available," he stressed.
For his part, Health Minister Adel Adawi said that teams were formed to finalize the national strategy of population of 2015-2030 soon.
