Amman - KUNA
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Tuesday 7,219 people have been killed during clashes between opposition and government forces in the war-torn country in the month of August.
The clashes were between the opposition forces on one side, and government troops and fighters from Lebanon, Iraq and Iran on the other, said SOHR in a statement, and the victims included women and children.
Meanwhile, SOHR said fierce clashes between the two sides near the military airport of Deir Az-Zor in eastern Syria have forced thousands of people to flee for safe havens.
Syrian government warplanes were bombarding positions of Islamic State (IS) militants in different parts of the country, it said.
