At least six civilians were killed, including four children, and over 20 others wounded when rebel mortar shells slammed a park in the northwestern province of Idlib, the Syrian national TV reported.
The mortars landed at a children's park in the Sheikh Thulth in Idlib, said the report, spelling no further details.
The mortar attack marked the first such deadly incident against civilians during the first day of the four-day Muslim Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.
Separately, the Syrian mainstream media said the Syrian troops advanced on Saturday in a number of areas in the northern province of Aleppo, wresting back control over the Handarat area and its countryside along with villages and hilltops in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
The oppositional Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported the military showdown in Aleppo, saying that intense battles have been raging since Friday between the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front and the Syrian troops west of the central prison of Aleppo, amid Syrian airstrikes on Handarat.
Syria's Minister of Defense Fahed Jassim Furaij said Saturday that the victories of the Syrian troops are the only way to eliminate terrorism in order to return peace and security to Syria.
