The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) inaugurated its first African representative office in Senegal’s capital, Dakar

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) inaugurated its first African representative office in Senegal’s capital, Dakar, on Thursday.

The ONMT’s new office, located in an upscale neighborhood of Dakar, hopes to strengthen the tourist field between Morocco and Senegal and be a junction for the rest of the African continent.

The office will be headed by Jalal Imani, who told Ivorian newspaper “Nord Sud Quotidien” in June 1016, that Africa and the promotion of south-south cooperation are among the priorities of the ONMT.

The inauguration ceremony for the office coincided with Moroccan Gastronomic and Cultural week. This event is organized by ONMT under the guidance of Morocco’s embassy in Senegal.

The event, which will be held until February 14, is organized in partnership with national airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and the Regional Council Fez-Meknès and the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Fez.

More than 300 guests honored the cultural and gastronomic heritage of the Kingdom at the Radisson Blue Hotel.

Speaking to reporters, Director General of the ONMT, Abderrafie Zouiten said the inauguration of ONMT’s new office is “very symbolic,” noting that there is a relevant product between Fez and Dakar called “Ziara Tijania.”

“Next March a group of journalists from the biggest French media will come to Morocco and then to Senegal to showcase a combined product between the two countries,” Zouiten added.
