The fourth ministerial meeting of Libya’s neighboring countries held in Cairo called for an immediate halt to all armed operations in Libya to support the political process and dialogue with violence-renouncing sides.
In the final communiqué, the meeting urged all armed elements and militias to drop their arms according to a set timetable to reach a political agreement.
In the meantime, foreign sides have to commit to stop supplying illegitimate parties with all kinds of weapons and in order to achieve this move, supervision at all Libyan sea, air and ground outlets has to be stepped up, the communiqué says.
No weapons will be allowed into Libya unless demanded by the Libyan state and after the consent of the United Nations Security Council Sanctions Committee.
All forms of terrorism and trans-border crimes have to be fought and their funding sources have to be cut off, it says.
The statement advised that a mechanism be formed under the foreign ministers of Libya’s neighboring countries to follow up the recommendations of the political and security working teams.
The participants welcomed holding a fifth meeting in Khartoum, Sudan, on a date to be agreed upon later.
They also welcomed international assistance to rebuild the Libyan state institutions in cooperation with the neighboring states, including offering training on border control.
