Senate President Abdur-Ra'uf Rawabdeh affirmed that Jordan should consider moving towards decentralized transformation applicable to provinces .
Speaking at a Senate consultative meeting on Monday, Rawabdeh said that the rationale behind proposals for decentralization should be studied carefully and should take into consideration ways to finance the move and the possibility of applying the same model across all targeted provinces.
Senator Heyam Kalimat reviewed the justifications offered for the decentralization approach as a way to achieve sustainable development, meet the citizens' needs and aspirations, address poverty and achieve partnership and integration among the government, the private sector and the civil society. All of this can go a long way towards achieving the goal of sustainable development.
"Decentralization is a main requirement for democracy and good governance. It promotes public participation in decision making and contributes towards preparing qualified members of Parliament. It t is considered an effective mechanism for administrative development," she added.
