The State Security Court's (SSC) General Prosecution has filed a legal challenge with the Cassation Court against the SSC's September 24 ruling acquitting terrorism suspect Abu Qatadah of the charge of belonging to an armed organisation.
The prosecution demanded that the Cassation Court revoke the verdict and indict the defendant on that charge.
The prosecution had on Sept. 1 contested an SSC verdict issued in late June that cleared Omar Mahmoud Othman, known as Abu Qatadah, of another charge and had demanded that the ruling be overruled. Qatadah's lawyer Ghazi Thneibat had also submitted a legal challenge before the Cassation Court, calling for upholding the verdict of acquittal.
The two cases are now under the jurisdiction of the Cassation Court pending a final decision.
