Vice President Iyad Allawi confirmed on Sunday his support for Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, urging the federal government to give provinces greater authorities.
Allawi said in a press statement today, "What we need is to find a new political geography do not differentiate among the people," pointing out that "we do not deprive people of their legitimate rights on the basis of doctrine, religion or belief.
He added, "I have a firm belief in the fact that al- Abadi is aware of the problems and he is of goodwill and we hope to help him," stressing that "we will stand in a row with al-Abadi all the time if he walked on the proper way to recovery.
On communication with some Sunni leaders, he outlined that he has good relations with many of these groups in the provinces which were exposed to shelling and siege by the previous government.
He continued, "I have already conducted a dialogue with some of them," noting that "a group of them sent a letter to the Prime Minister explaining that they will be an integral part of the political process.
Allawi called on the government to "work to devolve authority to the provinces and Sunni opposition that led peaceful protests in 2013 and that" we have had to integrate some of the people who were seeking a peaceful and constitutional form to display their positions in previous demonstrations.
He pointed to the need to exert efforts in order to be open to those people and meet some of their simple demands, stressing that "the key issue is that these people should be treated equally as other citizens.
The National Coalition revealed yesterday that Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi promised Head of the Coalition, Iyad Allawi, who took over the position of vice president, giving him full authority with respect to national reconciliation file .
