Thirteen member of "Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi" militia (Popular Mobilization Militia) were killed and 18 others were wounded in a suicide bombing that targeted buildings for the militia in Sour-Shenas south of Tikrit on Tuesday, police said.
Police said the fiery blast was caused by large amounts of explosives laden into a mobile water tank. Explosion of the vehicle, driven by a suicide attacker, inflicted extensive damage at the targeted building.
The blast was followed with an assault with automatic guns by gunmen of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on the militia building. Ensuing fighting lasted for hours during the night till dawn, when the ISIL attackers retreated.
ISIL gunmen also attacked a group of Iraqis, volunteering to join the militia, led by the cleric, Moqtada al-Sadr, in Al-Mukaishfieh south of Tikrit. Twelve gunmen were wounded in this assault.
Meanwhile, a security source in Salah Eddine governorate said coalition military aircraft wrongly hit a position manned by members of "Al-Salam Brigades," also affiliated to Al-Sadr's armed movement. The source said the air attacks targeted late on Monday the militia bases in the village, Maftoul, situated in Tuz-Khermato region
