A specialized inquiry committee was sent by the command of the National Gendarmerie (GN) to shed light on the circumstances of the tragic traffic accident occurred Tuesday between Aflou and Laghouat, said Wednesday commander of territorial grouping of Gendarmerie of Laghouat.
The committee, which started the investigation into the accident since Tuesday evening, is composed of technicians and road safety experts from the National Gendarmerie’s Institute of Criminology and Forensic (Bouchaoui-Algiers), said Colonel Bouziane Griche at a press briefing.
According to the same official, who chairs the committee in question, the 33-year old driver of coach of brand Daewoo en route from Oran to Adrar, involved in the accident, is being held by services of the national gendarmerie, on the request of the Public Prosecutor's office.
According to an eye witness, the accident occurred following the overtaking of a tractor by the coach, before colliding with a Coaster-brand minibus, affirmed colonel Griche, noting that this testimony will be taken into consideration by the inquiry committee.
The final toll of this accident, happened on the truck road 23, between Aflou and Laghouat, is of 17 killed and 27 injured still under medical examination, the director of Laghouat civil defense department lieutenant-colonel Abdelhak Lagraâ said.
