The explosion that took place at a square in downtown Cairo was caused by a home-made explosive device, a security source said.
The blast left 12 people injured, the source told MENA.
No deaths were reported, the source said.
The area of the blast is being combed by bomb experts.
Meanwhile, the source said that the underground Metro has not been affected by the explosion and no stations have been closed.
