African union Peace and security council

Egypt is preparing for the membership bid of the African Union Peace and Security Council of the AU during the coming AU Summit.

The 26th AU summit will take place in Addis Ababa on January 30 and 31.

The summit will be held under the theme: "2016: African Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the Rights of Women".

The African summit will be preceded by a meeting of the African foreign ministers on January 28-28.

The Addis Ababa summit will witness the elections of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, where Egypt is running for a three-year membership of one of the council's two seats allocated for Northern Africa.

The summit will tackle the reports of Abdel Fattah El Sisi in his capacity as coordinator of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change, mainly the outcome of the World Climate Change Summit held in Paris on December.

The summit will also cover a report about the condition of peace, security in Africa and the important conflicts in the continent.

The 26th AU Summit is preceded by the 31th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) on January 13.

The PRC will discuss items on its agenda and prepare appropriate recommendations for consideration by the Executive Council before submission to the Assembly of the Union for adoption.
