A celebration to grant an international honorary doctorate to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz by Al-Azhar University started on Monday.
Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal attended the celebration on behalf of the Saudi king.
Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Dr Ahmed el-Tayyeb along with a host of state officials attended the celebration.
The honorary degree comes in recognition of the king's services to Islam and Muslims across the world.
