Bahraini shura delegation

The role of parliaments in combating corruption and promoting regional integration was discussed at a forum in Amman, Jordan.
Shura Council Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee Chairman Dr. Shaikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa led Bahrain's delegation to the seventh Conference of Association of Senates, Shura and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab world (ASSECA).
Addressing the event, Dr. Shaikh Khalid said peace and development are inseparable and that growth and social and economic development can only be attained through security and political stability.
In his paper entitled: 'The role of parliaments of the association in fighting terrorism and maintaining peace', he highlighted the threat of terrorism in undermining economic and social development, which requires action at local, regional and international levels and strengthening the role of the UN.
He noted Bahrain's experience in maintaining political stability, in light of the spread of terrorism and extremism, and managing the crisis politically, by adopting dialogue and rejecting violence and fanaticism in line with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's vision and Reform Project.
Dr. Shaikh Khalid also chaired a second session 'Lessons learnt from conflicts and means of solving them', where Dr. Sami Al Khawalda spoke on a number of conflicts that have taken place in Arab and African countries, underlining the need to adopt the civil state system and meeting citizens' needs.
