New York - BNA
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)-affiliated Complaints Team has elected Bahraini national Saeed Mohammed Al Fayhani as chairman of its fifteenth session.
Al Fayhani's election to this position is one of the latest international developments in favour of the Kingdom of Bahrain that affirm the Kingdom's advanced rights status amongst countries of the world and the trust in the competence and expertise of Bahrainis in international organisations.
On this occasion, Al Fayhani expressed his gratitude and appreciation to HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and to the Government for boosting human rights in the Kingdom and providing Bahraini citizens opportunities to work in international organisations, asserting that his election as chairman of the fifteenth session is another evidence of the United Nations' trust in capability of Bahrainis to uphold the principles of neutrality and professionalism upon which the UN's lofty principles, goals and work rely.
He also thanked the team, especially Katharina Pabel from Austria who nominated him for this position, Imeru Tamrat Yigezu from Ethiopia, Mario L. Coriolano from Argentina and Latif Huseynov from Azerbaijan who have endorsed his nomination.
Al-Fayhani's term as head of the team will continue until February 2015. This is the first time a Bahraini citizen has been elected as chairman or member of the team and this attests to the international community's trust in the Kingdom of Bahrain's citizens.
