Algerian FM Ramtane Lamamra

Foreign Affairs Minister Ramtane Lamamra underlined Saturday, in New York, that Algeria, as a member of the Human Rights Council” takes and active part in the promotion of the universal and interdependent aspect of human rights.
“Driven by a high sense of responsibility, Algeria is taking an active part in the promotion of the universal aspect of human rights, as a member if the Human Rights Council,” said Lamamra in a speech at the general debate of the UN General Assembly.
“Under the personal directives of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the Algerian authorities are working to improve the standard of living of the citizens through  new achievements as shown by the recent laws which penalize violence against children and women and the reinforced protection of the rights of divorced women,” said Lamamra.
“These legislative developments are added to the political and institutional achievements of the Algerian women in terms of seats in the elected assemblies and government,” he added.
“The programme on the basis of which President Abdelaziz Bouteflika was re-elected and the five-year action plan of the government focus on the deepening of the participatory democracy, modernisation of justice, equal opportunities between men and women and the good governance,” added Lamamra.
