A senior al Qaeda leader was killed in a raid in southern Yemen, Yemen's Defence Ministry website "26 September.net" said.
Turki al-Asiri, a Saudi national, was a local commander of al Qaeda in the province of Lahj.
Al-Qaeda in Yemen is one of the most active branches of al Qaeda, and militants have launched attacks from there against the West.
Another al Qaeda member, Marwan al-Serouri, was slightly wounded and moved to prison.
