Egypt cracks down on irregular migrants

Three illegal migration brokers were arrested on Wednesday for massing youths seeking to travel to Italy illegally via the sea in return for money.

The detainees admitted to have committed the crime and were referred to prosecution for investigation. The prosecution ordered the three to be held in custody for four days pending further investigation.

In September, a boat carrying illegal migrants, mostly Egyptians, sank off the coast of the northern Egyptian city of Rosetta. About 200 people died.
