As many as 26 troops were killed while 28 others were wounded in Friday's terrorist attack that targeted a checkpoint in Sheikh Zuwaid district of North Sinai, a security source said.
Military helicopters moved the injured soldiers to hospitals in Cairo for treatment, the source added.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces are combing the stricken area amid anticipation of a wide-scale military operation against the terrorist hotbeds, witnesses said.
