Kasserine - TAP
Two young girls onboard a car that failed to comply with police order were shot dead by law enforcement personnel on Saturday at dawn in Kasserine, the Ministry of the Interior said on Saturday.
According to a Ministry statement, a car ran at full speed on the road Lariche-Kasserine where a police roadblock was erected following information on the presence of an armed group in a car en route to Kasserine.
After the driver failed to comply with the order, police fired at the vehicle and fatally wounded two young girls who were on board.
“Security forces initially flashed the headlights and fired warning shots at the vehicle,” according to the Interior Ministry statement which indicates that the driver had no driver’s licence.
The incident aroused the anger of residents and relatives of the two victims who tried to push their way into the regional hospital in Kasserine and destroy equipment. They also burnt tyres near the building.
Protesters also attempted to storm the National Guard station and the seat of the Governorate and blocked the national road between Kasserine and Gafsa.
They shouted slogans calling upon the authorities to initiate an investigation and bring to justice perpetrators of this “heinous crime.”
