A Polish soldier was killed in action in Afghanistan and three were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded, dpa cited the Ministry of National Defence as saying Saturday in Warsaw. The victim, identified as Warrant Officer Miroslaw Lucki, 38, was part of a NATO unit investigating a buried insurgent weapons cache when the improvised explosive device went off overnight, the ministry said. Several Afghan members of the Provincial Response Company anti-terrorism force were also hurt in the incident in the eastern province of Ghazni. The wounded were transferred by helicopter to a Polish military hospital, where doctors were unable to save Lucki. His death brings to 42 the number of Polish troops killed since the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan began in December 2001.
