At least 5 suspected militants were killed following a drone strike by coalition forces in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan, Khaama Press ‎quoted local officials as saying on Saturday.The air raid was carried out in Ghaziabad district where at least 21 Afghan soldiers were killed during an attack by Taliban militants last week.Provincial security chief, Gen. Abdul Habib Syed Khel, said the air raid was carried out late on Friday in Ghaziabad district.Gen. Syed Khel confirmed five anti-government armed militants were killed following the airstrike. The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.Kunar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where Taliban militants and insurgents from the other militant groups are openly operating in its various districts.Kunar borders Pakistan in the east where Taliban militants from Pakistan often cross the border and carry out attacks against the Afghan security forces.Sunday’s attack in Kunar province was one of the deadliest attacks against the Afghan army soldiers. Taliban militants group which claimed responsibility behind the incident, have been ramping up attacks in recent months in attempts to take advantage of the withdrawal of foreign troops at the end of 2014.
