At least six Palestinians died in latest Israeli air and sea attacks targeting various areas in the embattled Gaza Strip, local radio stations reported on Sunday.
Among the dead was a baby girl who lost her life in an air raid on a house in the southern border town of Rafah during the night. Four Palestinians were also wounded in this attack, the radios said.
In an updated report, sources at the local health administration said the death toll of more than six weeks of Israeli air, ground and sea attacks on the enclave jumped to 1,916. More than 9,875 others were wounded or maimed due to these attacks. A large number of the casualties were women and children. The offensive has left heavy damage across the strip.
On the political front, Egypt has been seeking to mediate a viable cease-fire and a settlement between Israel on one hand and the Islamic groups, Hamas and Islamic Jihad on the other.
The Islamists who control Gaza have linked a lasting truce to lifting the crippling siege on the region.
