The sessions of the Sixth Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Yemen to be held on Wednesday in the U.S. city of New York with high-level participation of representatives of States, regional and international organizations and donors. Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Mohamed al-Sa’adi explained to Saba that the meeting will discuss a number of documents the Yemeni government has prepared including the economic paper, which will review the developments in the economic situation in Yemen and what has been achieved at the level of fulfillment of mutual obligations between the government and donors. Dr. al-Sa’adi also pointed out that the report of “Yemen’s vision after 2015” will be also reviewed during the meeting as well as what has been achieved at the level of the Millennium Development Goals. The meeting of Friends is scheduled to discuss three major axes, including the political axe, which will review the progress in the implementation of the GCC-brokered initiative and its operational mechanism and in the national dialogue conference as well as the underway preparations for the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for 2014. The second axe to be discussed in the meeting is the economic axe, which will review the level of implementation in the donors’ pledges for Yemen in the donors conference in Riyadh and the meeting of Friends of Yemen in New York in last September, as well as the progress in the economic reforms in Yemen. The third axe will deal with the developments relating to the restructuring of the army and security forces and the Yemeni efforts in combating terrorism and establishing security and stability . The Yemeni government will present in the meeting three papers, which will touch on the achievements made in the political and economic and security fields and the current challenges, as well as the support needed to be provided by the Friends of Yemen in this aspect.
