A senior official of the US Department of State told reporters that Russia and the US have agreed an agenda for the next Syria conference, but not a timetable or format. The conference would be convened in Geneva, which already hosted a conference on Syria in June 2012, Voice of Russia reported. The delegates to the first Geneva conference, including representatives of the United States, agreed that the Syrian crisis can only be resolved through an all-inclusive political process. Today, however, the Americans are prepared to take military action against Syria. They say they want to punish the Assad government for its alleged use of chemical weapons in an attack near Damascus on August 21.
