The US handed over to Egypt on July 31 five turrets for M1A1 Abrams tanks, according to a statement issued by the US embassy in Cairo.

The turrets were handed over at an air base in eastern Cairo, added the statement, indicating that the move comes within the framework of US support for Egypt.

Also, the US will hand over additional 14 turrets for M1A1 tanks later in August, according to the statement.

The US will maintain its technical support and training for the Egyptian ground forces, added the statement.
