The United Nations Mission and Joint African Union Force in Darfur, UNAMID, has announced a reduction its force numbers from19,000 to 14,000. An official at the mission headquarters confirmed that reductions will continue until June 2014 and will not affect the protection of civilians. He pointed out that the mission will maintain focus on populated areas.
