Two police officers were killed in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, the Investigative Committee said. The police detail came under fire when it stopped a car for an ID check. People inside the car opened fire on policemen killing them, Russian news agency (Ria Novosti) reported. More that a decade after the end of a federal war against separatists in another North Caucasus republic, Chechnya, militants continue to stage frequent attacks on security forces, police and civilians, in other regions in the area, including Dagestan. Volatile Dagestan, which neighbors Chechnya, saw around half of all militant attacks in Russia last year.
