Tunisia membership in ICC 'sovereign decision'

Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Khamis al Ghinawy said on Thursday that his country's membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC) is a sovereign decision and the African Union has nothing to do with this issue.

Ghinawy made the statements in response to a question by a Tunisian MP following reports about Tunisia's willingness to withdraw from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

During its 25th ordinary session in Johannesburg, the African Union formed a committee to outline a starter to withdraw from the ICC, Ghinawy noted, adding that Tunisia was not a member of this committee.

He said the final decision regarding this issue will be announced soon.
