Taiwan\'s defense minister resigned Monday after public outrage over the death a corporal who was forced into vigorous exercises as punishment, officials said. Kao Hua-chu was replaced by deputy defense minister Andrew Yang, The Wall Street Journal reported. The corporal, Hung Chung-chiu, 24, died July 3 of heatstroke after undergoing the exercises and solitary confinement, the BBC reported. Hung was being punished for bringing a mobile phone with a camera onto a military base. The corporal\'s death prompted criticism of the government.
