President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has highlighted Egypt's respect for the Libyan people's choice.

Asked about the Libyan crisis following a lecture at the Portuguese military academy in Lisbon on Tuesday, the president called for backing the Tobrok-based Libyan parliament under Aqila Saleh and also called for lifting the arms ban imposed Libya's national army to enable it to take control of the country's territories.

The president said that Egypt has been exerting strenuous efforts to secure its border with Libya which extends over 1,200 kilometres.

President Sisi said that Egypt's stance towards the Libyan crisis consists in the importance of restoring the national state role to confront terrorism and boost stability.
