Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday lashed out at recent statements by Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani, considering such comments as "a big mistake".
The minister asserted that Madani's comments during a press conference in Tunis do not conform with his responsibilities as an OIC chief.
Shoukry added that such action cast aspersions on Madani's capability to do his job adequately.
In his statements, the minister added Cairo has to reappraise its position concerning dealing with the OIC secretariat and its chief.
On Friday, Egypt has assigned its envoy to the OIC to submit an official protest note over the way in which the OIC chief spoke about President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during an ISESCO conference in Tunisia.
In return, Madani said that he did not mean to offend the Egyptian leadership under President Sisi, adding that his speech in a conference of education ministers in Tunisia "was only said in jest".
